"He that but looketh on a plate of ham and eggs to lust after it hath already committed breakfast with it in his heart"
-C.S. Lewis
We thought it fitting that we should kick off this here blog with a challenge based on that most important meal of the day. You love it, I love it, we all love it. No, not puppies (ok so we all in fact DO love puppies, but that's off topic). Breakfast. No meal is so universally loved, yet so diligently neglected when it comes to culinary innovation.
Therefore this month's challenge: Pimp My Breakfast!
Ok, so steak marinated in vodka is a bit...gross. Unfortunately, this is never mentioned in the recipes you'll find if you search for vodka marinades on Epicurious or similar sites.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, the rest of my 'Bloody Mary Steak and Eggs' worked out surprisingly well. I perched a warm poached egg atop a bed of arugula, sliced pan-seared strip steak and a square of awesome brioche (ok, so it's a fancy term for some potato bread crisped up in some bacon drippings). Along with the accompanying 'sauce', the textures and flavors worked gangbusters together. Warm, rich, runny egg yolk, just-bitter-enough arugula, not-too-tender steak (disregarding the oddly antiseptic flavor imparted from the vodka), the crunch of the brioche, the brightness of the tomatoes...
Definitely making this again, sans the vodka marinade. Will post a pic tonight.
